Why working in care pays

At Nexus, we firmly believe in offering our carers a range of benefits that befit the quality work that they do.

With rewarding rates of pay and the potential for career growth, we enable our carers to provide quality work.

As a home care employer winner, we have a proven track record of quality.

Premium pay

We want our carers to feel empowered to keep performing at their best.

To this end, we offer a minimum of £12.85 per hour on weekdays and £13.25 per hour on weekends.

When carers work in teams of two, they will be paid £13.50 per hour.

On the whole, this results in a stable salary of around £27,500 per year for full-time contracted carers, and this can rise to £32,000 a year with overtime.

Carers can earn up to £27 per hour on Bank holidays, while those on weekend contracts can earn £1,200 per month for 20 hours of weekend home care work.

To help cover the day-to-day cost of travel, we pay 30 pence per mile and, for contracted carers, we offer a £2,000 car allowance.

Flexible contracts

To help accommodate the preferences and capabilities of our carers, we offer flexible employment.

We offer zero-hour contracts, allowing carers to pick up work as it suits them.

For those seeking stability, we offer locked hours.

We also have sleepovers, night shifts, and live-in work that, along with our daytime work, ensures that whatever schedule suits a carer, there will be a viable option at Nexus.

Additional benefits

There is more to working with Nexus than our premium pay and flexible contracts.

As a family-run organisation, we have an open-door policy wherein any employee can offer their thoughts, seek support, or share their experiences at any time.

We have a paid-for breakfast club for the children of any staff member who is working an early shift.

As well as taking care of your family, we help take care of you by offering mental health support.

This is delivered in partnership with counsellors who can help you navigate any of life’s challenges.

Our commitment to employee well-being is why we have a dedicated welfare manager in place and a senior carer network to offer ongoing support.

Our new carers shadow those with more experience so that they can get to know clients and learn valuable skills.

This is just the beginning of the range of career progression opportunities we offer to guide our carers to their career goals, whatever level they happen to be.
