Supporting the community beyond home care

By Tinga Umera

At Nexus Care, we do more than provide excellent support to our clients in the comfort of their own homes. Our team also makes an active effort to support the local community, by fundraising for local charities and participating in events.

I truly believe that’s what sets us apart, as whilst helping others is a key quality in a carer, our staff are passionate enough to go above and beyond for people in their own time.

Celebrating our team efforts

Last year the team went all out on their fundraising efforts, demonstrating their commitment to improve people’s lives.

One stand-out example was Samantha Gordon, our Care Co-ordinator, who took on the Pretty Muddy 5K race and raised over £200 for Cancer Research!

The motivation behind her run was heart-touching, stemming from her experiences losing family and friends to cancer.

We also came together as a team to take part in Birmingham’s Memory Walk and donated £200 to Alzheimer’s Society, which really resonated with all of us.

From working closely with individuals and families who have been impacted by Alzheimer’s, we recognise the importance of having access to the right support, whether through home care, community care, or support getting out and about.

Another of our favourite events was our Macmillan Coffee Morning, from which the team raised over £100 to support families navigating cancer diagnoses.

My experience supporting CRY Wolves

I recently participated in the Wolverhampton 10K for a cause extremely close to my heart, Cardiac Risk in the Young.

This fundraising run was incredibly rewarding, with the bigger picture in mind to support young people.

My team raised an amazing £3,267 for this charity, which will help to provide over 100 tests for young people at risk of cardiac arrest. Thanks to our ongoing support, Nexus was also named as a business sponsor for the event.

Working with young people through our Children’s Services, I see first-hand the importance of regular health checks to ensure all of their needs are being met and, most importantly, they get medical support as quickly as possible.

This is especially important for matters such as cardiac conditions, which often go undiagnosed and mistreated.

Getting involved in the community

To celebrate our 10th anniversary, we’re committed to doing even more for the community this year!

Our team will unite to break more fundraising records and increase awareness for causes that matter to us.

Stay tuned as we dig out our walking boots and aim to take on the:

We’re looking forward to coming together as a team to support incredible causes like these!
