Nexus Care Services Managing Director Tinga Umera named Male Entrepreneur of the Year at the UK–Zimbabwe Business Expo Awards

Tinga Umera, Managing Director of Sutton Coldfield-based home care provider Nexus Care Services, has been named Male Entrepreneur of the Year at the UK–Zimbabwe Business Expo Awards 2026.

The awards celebrate the achievements of Zimbabweans living and working in the United Kingdom, recognising people and businesses making a positive difference to their communities and industries.

Tinga was shortlisted in four categories in total:

  • Male Entrepreneur of the Year
  • Community Champion
  • Outstanding Male in Healthcare
  • Outstanding Healthcare Business

Winners were chosen by public vote, reflecting the support Tinga and the Nexus team have built among the people who know them best.

The awards were presented at a gala evening in Birmingham, where Tinga rubbed shoulders with a host of well-known faces, including Zimbabwean-born heavyweight boxer Derek Chisora and some of Zimbabwe’s most famous music artists, including Tinga’s favourite artist Tsungai Tsikirai.

She is an award-winning Afro-soul singer, songwriter, dancer and cultural ambassador, who was born in Zimbabwe and is now based in the UK.

He also proudly met the Mayor of Medway in Kent, Cllr Douglas Hamandishe, who was born in Zimbabwe and, like Tinga, has a strong background in healthcare and leadership, with more than 20 years of experience as a mental health nurse.

Under Tinga’s leadership, Nexus has grown its services well beyond traditional home care.

The company now offers nurse-led complex care, backed by a CQC registration for the Treatment of Disease, Disorder or Injury, so that people with complex health needs can stay safely at home.

It has also opened a new hub in Shenstone as it continues to expand across Sutton Coldfield, Tamworth, Lichfield and the wider West Midlands.

Tinga Umera, Managing Director of Nexus Care Services, said: “Being shortlisted in four categories was an honour in itself, so to come away as Male Entrepreneur of the Year is something I will remember for a long time. Knowing that the result was decided by public vote makes it mean even more.

“Building Nexus has never been a one-person effort. Every carer and every member of our office team has played their part and this award belongs to them as much as it does to me.

“There is so much talent and enterprise in the Zimbabwean community here in the UK and it is a privilege to be recognised alongside so many inspiring people.

“I hope it shows others that with hard work and a clear sense of purpose, you can build a business that makes a real difference to people’s lives.”

The award caps a strong year for Tinga and the business. He was recently elected to the Executive Committee of the Royal Sutton Coldfield Chamber of Commerce, and Nexus has been shortlisted at the Great British Care Awards 2026 West Midlands regionals.
