Nexus Care Services Managing Director, Tinga Umera, has been named Registered Care Manager of the Year at the Staffordshire Dignity in Care Awards 2026.
The award was presented at a ceremony at the Staffordshire County Showground in Stafford on Thursday 24 September.
It recognises Tinga’s contribution to adult social care across Sutton Coldfield, Lichfield, Tamworth, Shenstone and the wider county, where he leads a team delivering more than 2,500 care calls each week to over 200 clients.
Tinga came to the sector from a background in banking and business advisory, building strong commercial foundations for Nexus’s recent growth.
As the son of a carer, he has paired that commercial grounding with a first-hand understanding of what good care looks like.
The result is a culture in which the needs of service users and the ambitions of staff carry equal weight.
This year Tinga has led two significant milestones for the organisation. He was instrumental in opening a new office in Shenstone, giving Nexus a base from which to better serve communities in Aldridge, Lichfield, Tamworth and the surrounding villages.
He has also pioneered a new CQC registration for the Treatment of Disease, Disorder or Injury (TDDI).
This allows Nexus to extend into complex care, adapting its support to people’s nursing needs across a wide range of conditions.
On winning the award, Tinga said: “Being named Registered Care Manager of the Year is a huge honour and one I share with every member of the Nexus team.
“Our carers go out in all weathers, day in and day out and it is their compassion and commitment that the people we support feel every day. This award belongs to them as much as it does to me.
“Dignity sits at the heart of everything we do, so to be recognised at these awards in particular means a great deal. I’m incredibly proud of what we have built together and excited about what comes next as we grow our complex care services.”
Tinga has helped to reshape how Nexus supports its own people too, with more carers moving to fixed hours and a guaranteed salary, while access to NVQs and advanced training has been expanded. The office team now works a four-day week to support a better work-life balance.
Samuel Court, Director at Nexus Care Services, added: “Tinga has built a business where staff feel valued and clients receive consistently excellent care. This award is thoroughly deserved and the whole team is incredibly proud of him.”
The Staffordshire Dignity in Care Awards celebrate individuals and services that go above and beyond to protect and promote dignity in adult social care across the county.
