Nexus team stakes its claim for Midlands Family Business Awards

Back in May, we revealed that we had been nominated as a finalist in the Midlands Family Business Awards 2024, due to take place in October.

The Midlands Family Business Awards were established in 2010 by third-generation family business The Wilson Organisation.

Each category in the awards aims to celebrate and recognise an aspect of family business in the Midlands, creating a supportive and friendly community for the region’s family businesses.

We are delighted to have been nominated for the headline category of the awards – Family Business of the Year, where we find ourselves up against five other businesses.

As one of only six businesses to be shortlisted, the awards carry a large amount of prestige.

Ahead of October’s awards ceremony, we were invited to the offices of the award sponsor, Ward Recycling, for judging day.

Now, it wasn’t quite like the X-Factor judges’ houses, but the pressure and nerves were just as real.

The judges, who were representatives of other award sponsors such as DGS and Streets Chartered Accountants, questioned our Managing Director Tinga Umera and Company Secretary Elizabeth Court on matters ranging from the history of Nexus Care Services to its core values and approach to care.

Tinga and Elizabeth then wowed the judges with an in-depth PowerPoint presentation detailing Nexus Care’s family members and their roles within the business, plus stats showing the growth of the business alongside client testimonials.

“We have been privileged enough to have entered and then shortlisted for many awards in recent times,” said Tinga, “but there haven’t been many requiring an interview and a presentation!

“I think that speaks volumes for how prestigious the Midlands Family Business Awards are, the judges are thorough and want to make sure they pick the right business on the night.

“It must be said however, that to be just one of six finalists for this award feels like an immense achievement and only serves to show that our services come from family, and that is truly where love and care originate.”

We will find out if we have won when The Midlands Family Business Awards take place on Thursday 3rd October.
